![]() ![]() ![]() It has been 7 years since we lost Anton Yelchin. Spark! Pro series – 19th June 2023 Spiceworks Originals. If (-not (Get-AppxPackage )) Get-AppxPackage The re-install/update and register the : (for Azure/WAM/ADAL) We couldnt get this to work at first because all instructions say you should run powershell as administrator, but this is not the case, just run it as normal and second thing is that all office applications have to be shutdown (also onedrive and teams) best is to do a clean boot and stop onedrive and teams from the system tray. Next we also found a solution for the Office applications not being able to login/ADAL/WAM screen being white or dissapearign as soon as you press connect. Option 4 of Opens a new window is indeed the solution for the start menu not working, it's a registry hyve permission issue and can be solved by putting permissions in on the user shell folders for all application packages and give it read permission. We even had several users experience this issue after being able to work for a time (after profiel reset) again after x period of time (we suspect MFA to play a role)Īfter trying and trying we found a solution (which was posted on several fora pas couple weeks) We made a ticket with Microsoft support and send in log files and everything but the kitchen sink but nobody can put the finger where it all goes bad and what is causing it. in nearly all cases the issues are after MFA challenge (Modern authentication breaks > start menu and office apps break > user profile reset > everything works again) ![]() I have found out that modern authentication is broken for the user profile and only that profile, after a profiel reset it all works again All laptops have this issue after Windows 10 21H2 was installed (but theres no gap between updates, these devices are updated regular) MFA has been setup through conditional access (but so have other customers the same way but no issues) All laptops are configured through autopilot (but so are other customers with more or less same setup) We do managed services for several customers (Azure, Hybrid, on prem solutions) and while we have several Azure synced customers only one has the same issues reported by Dell laptops/notebooks (several different models) all are 5 years or younger in age Have been searching google for the past couple of months but no solution just yet. However if anyone can share their experience with this, that would be great - it can't just be me! We are going to do some work to identify which updates may have caused this, but I can't find anyone online who has had this same experience in the past 6 months. It is just not the best practice for us to keep doing this, now that it is not a blip of 1 or 2 users. The workaround is to just delete the user profile from the machine and then re-create the user profile by getting them to login again. I have looked at other articles and tried a whole host of fixes, such as running Powershell commands to reinstall the start menu, restart Windows Explorer, repair MS office, DISM restore health, SFC and the humble reboot. Therefore whatever issue or corruption happens, it is specific Windows user profile on the machine. If you log in to the machine as another user, then the start menu works OK and the Microsoft Office apps behave normally, and activate OK. When the issue occurs it only happens to the specific user profile. However they all use Windows 10 and Microsoft Office 365 Desktop apps from our E3/E5 license. The users that it has happened to have different makes and models of laptop, different sets of software and work at different geographical locations. We have lets say 500 machines and this has happened to approx 1% of the machines. By stops working I mean the start menu won't open and by play up I mean the O365 desktop apps will no longer activate, or if they do open then they don't work properly - such as Outlook gets stuck asking for the password. Following a Windows Update and reboot, the start menu stops working and Office 365 desktop applications start to play up. At the business where I work, we have had a few machines have an issue. ![]()
